Russian Checkers 8×8
In Russian checkers, white always starts the game. Pieces move diagonally on dark squares, and capturing an opponent's piece is mandatory if possible. Captures can be made both forward and backward. Kings, which are created when a piece reaches the opponent's back row, have the freedom to move and capture along any diagonal. The Turkish strike rule applies, allowing only one capture per move per opponent's piece. If multiple capture options are available, you can choose any, not necessarily the longest sequence. A king can immediately use its new abilities upon crowning.
A draw can be declared under various conditions:
- If a player with checkers and three or more kings faces one opposing king and fails to capture it within 15 moves after the balance of forces is established.
- If, in a game with only kings on both sides, the position remains unchanged for 30 moves in 4 or 5 piece endings, or 60 moves in 6 or 7 piece endings.
- If a player with three pieces (three kings, two kings and a checker, a king and two checkers, or three regular checkers) cannot capture an opponent's king on the "high road" within five moves.
- If both players move only kings without moving regular checkers or capturing for 15 moves.
- If the same position is repeated three or more times with the same player to move each time.
International Checkers 10×10
In International checkers, white also initiates the game. Pieces move diagonally on dark squares, with mandatory captures possible in both forward and backward directions. Kings can move and capture along any diagonal. The Turkish strike rule applies here as well, limiting captures to one per opponent's piece per move. The majority rule requires you to choose the capture option that takes the most pieces if multiple options exist. A regular piece that reaches the opponent's back row during a capture continues as a regular piece unless it stops on the back row, turning into a king on the next turn.
