Preparation for Children Going to the Hospital
"HC And - When Mother or Father Has Cancer" has been developed through a collaborative effort between the Oncology Department R, H.C. Andersen Children and Youth Hospital at Odense University Hospital, hospitalized children, their families, and 10:30 Visual Communication.
About HC And
HC And is a patient information resource designed specifically for children aged 4-7 years. Its primary goal is to prepare these young children for hospital experiences and reduce their anxiety by familiarizing them with medical terminology that might otherwise be unfamiliar.
"HC And - When Mother or Father Has Cancer" serves as an introductory guide to the general cancer treatment process at the hospital, tailored for the youngest children, their families, and friends. The information is presented through a child's voice and engaging animations, utilizing the "Learning through play" approach on tablets, mobile phones, or touch screens.
Children in this age group learn best through interactive and concrete experiences. As relatives of cancer patients, they can become overwhelmed with information. HC And addresses this by providing short, manageable sequences at a child-friendly level, making it an ideal starting point for "newbies."
Content Overview
The resource includes 7 staged stories that answer key questions about cancer, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. These stories are designed to be used by hospital staff as an educational tool, helping to establish a shared understanding with the child about their family member's condition and treatment.
Accessibility
HC And is available for free download to everyone, ensuring that all children and families who need this resource can access it without barriers.
