Embracer has celebrated the remarkable success of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, revealing that the game is on the verge of reaching 2 million sales. Just a day after its launch, the sequel to the medieval action role-playing game sold 1 million copies, and within 10 days, it nearly doubled that number. This impressive performance underscores the triumph of developer Warhorse Studios, as their latest title launched on February 4 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S.
Embracer highlighted that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 performed exceptionally well on Steam, achieving over 250,000 peak concurrent players. This is a significant increase compared to the first game, which peaked at 96,069 concurrent players on Steam seven years ago. It’s important to note that the actual peak concurrent player count for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is likely higher, considering its availability on consoles as well, though neither Sony nor Microsoft disclose such figures.
Embracer, which owns Warhorse Studios through its subsidiary Plaion, described Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 as a resounding success, not only in sales but also in terms of player and critic reception. Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors praised the dedication and hard work of Warhorse Studios and their publisher, Deep Silver, saying, "This reflects the dedication and hard work of our development studio, Warhorse Studios, and our publisher, Deep Silver."
Wingefors expressed confidence in the game's future, stating, "It is our strong belief that the game will continue to generate substantial revenues over the coming years, highlighting the exceptional quality, immersion and appeal of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2." He also mentioned that Warhorse Studios has a comprehensive roadmap for the next 12 months, including updates and new content, promising a continuously evolving experience for the community.
In addition to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Embracer is set to release Killing Floor 3 later this quarter (January to March 2025). The company employs over 5,000 game developers and has plans for 10 triple-A games over the next three financial years (FY 2025/26, FY 2026/27, and FY 2027/28), with eight of these coming from internal studios and two from external ones.
In FY 2025/26, Embracer anticipates the release of two triple-A games towards the end of the financial year. Other mid-size releases include Gothic 1 Remake, REANIMAL, Fellowship, Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core, Titan Quest II, Screamer, Echoes of the End (working title), Tides of Tomorrow, Satisfactory (console), and the full release of Wreckfest 2, along with several other yet-to-be-announced mid-sized games.
Despite recent challenges, including significant layoffs and the sale of studios such as Gearbox and Saber Interactive, Embracer continues to own Metro developer 4A Games, which is currently developing a new game in the series.
