"Saros: Housemarque's New Game Post-Returnal, Set for 2026"

Author : Matthew May 06,2025

Housemarque has unveiled Saros, their eagerly anticipated follow-up to the 2022 roguelite shooter, Returnal. Set to launch in 2026 exclusively for PlayStation 5 and optimized for the PS5 Pro, Saros will feature the talented Rahul Kohli in a leading role.

Showcased during the recent PlayStation State of Play, Saros unmistakably carries the signature style of Housemarque. Players will step into the shoes of Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer on a quest for answers on a perilous, ever-changing planet. Haunted by an eclipse and home to formidable beings, the setting evokes the atmosphere of Returnal. Phrases like "come back stronger" hint at the roguelike mechanics, while the display of fireballs nods to Housemarque's penchant for bullet-hell challenges.

PlayCreative Director Gregory Louden describes Saros as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's focus on gameplay. While it introduces a fresh single-player IP, it builds upon the third-person action established in Returnal.

However, Saros isn't just a repeat of Returnal. According to Louden's insights on the PlayStation Blog, a significant gameplay difference lies in the introduction of permanent resources and progression. In Saros, the world shifts with each player death, yet players can permanently enhance their weapons and suits.

More details are slated to emerge later this year, with Housemarque promising an extended gameplay reveal.
