Kojima Plans Film After PS Game Physint in 5-6 Years

Author : Hannah Dec 13,2025

Hideo Kojima's spiritual successor to Metal Gear, Physint, remains approximately "five or six years" from launch.

Kojima confirmed this timeline in an interview with Le Film Francais, stating his filmmaking ambitions would have to wait until completing this new "action espionage" title—his first since his high-profile departure from Konami in 2015.

"Since leaving Konami, I’ve received numerous offers with substantial conditions to develop games at my independent studio," Kojima explained (via ResetEra user Red Kong XIX). "Alongside Death Stranding 2, we're also developing Physint, which will take another five to six years."

"Perhaps after that, I can finally pursue filmmaking," he added. "Cinema shaped my childhood—directing would be my tribute. Plus, I’m not getting any younger, so I’d rather do it while I still can!"

PlayStation Studios head Herman Hulst first announced Physint in January 2024, but details have been scarce since. At the time, Kojima hinted at cinematic ambitions for the project, later clarifying on X/Twitter that its "visuals, story, themes, cast, acting, aesthetics, and sound" would push next-gen "Digital Entertainment" comparable to a film experience.

This is just one of multiple projects at Kojima Productions, including Death Stranding 2 and OD—a new Xbox Game Studios collaboration featuring actress Hunter Schafer and director Jordan Peele. Kojima is also producing A24’s Death Stranding film adaptation.

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach launches June 26, and actor Norman Reedus recently hinted to IGN that he would "absolutely reprise his role" in the movie adaptation.

Following recent revelations about scrapped game concepts—including a "Forgetting Game" where progress decays during long breaks—Kojima shared that he has left his team a USB drive containing future game ideas to explore after his death.
