Silksong Post-Launch Woes and Updates
Review Bombed in China
After more than six years of anticipation, Hollow Knight: Silksong has finally launched. However, fans in the Chinese region (CN) are expressing disappointment with its localization. While the overall Steam review rating stands as "Mostly Positive," reviews filtered by language show a "Mostly Negative" sentiment specifically for Simplified Chinese comments.
These critiques focus on poor translation quality that detracted from the gameplay experience. According to TigerHix, the CN translator for OMORI, the Silksong localization "reads like a Wuxia novel rather than capturing the game’s intended tone."
Amidst this backlash, Matthew Griffin, Head of PR and Marketing at Team Cherry, took to Twitter (X) on September 5 to address the concerns. He confirmed that the team is aware of the translation quality issues and plans to implement improvements in the coming weeks.
Despite acknowledging these problems, Team Cherry has not yet specified when an update will be released. As of this writing, negative sentiment dominates with 72% of the 28,743 Simplified Chinese reviews on Steam being rated negatively.
In contrast, Japanese language reviews are "Mixed," with players primarily citing difficulty levels and balancing issues as pain points. Although Silksong has encountered a rocky launch in certain regions, the game maintains a positive rating across 77% of its total overall reviews.
At Game8, we awarded Hollow Knight: Silksong an impressive score of 98 out of 100, praising it for enhancing upon the original title and justifying every second of the six-year wait. Dive into our full review of Hollow Knight: Silksong below!
